About Jennifer Pickering
Jennifer Pickering is a contemporary artist based in the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia and a graduate of the University of British Columbia, MFA studio arts program. Her work has been exhibited recently in a solo exhibition in 2011 at the Centro Cultural Axixic, in Jalisco, Mexico. Much of her practice is based in site-specific interventions into public space through which she explores complex systems of information exchange. This includes Circulate (2010), a fluorescent light intervention on Pandosy Street in Kelowna BC in 2010. Issues of access and denial, of privilege, class, and where the power lies are central to her work.
As the Artistic and Administrative Director of the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art in Kelowna BC from 2006-10 she created projects including React2010 and GeotagArt (2011), supporting innovative new media presentations. Current independent work includes curatorial development of, The Picto Prophesy Project, a new media project of the Ullus Collective based in location-based technology, launching in 2011/12.
